Braintree's U14's got back to winning ways with a convincing home win over Colchester and East Essex. Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl first, Braintree ripped through the Colchester batting line up with 7 of the 9 bowlers used picking up a wicket. It was as good a bowling and fielding performance as has ever been shown by this group and really shows how much they have matured and developed since last year. Bear Bullen, a new comer to the ranks this season, was the pick of the bunch with 2 for 5 from 3 overs of well controlled, left arm swing that had the opposition wondering how they were going to score their next run.

Given the batting form of the openers, Will sherry and Lucas Hale, it was no surprise that the total of 84-9 was reached at a canter and this was affirmed when Hale smashed his second ball over square leg for 6 to set the tone for the chase. Sherry was his usual, classy self, making his way effortlessly to 21* whilst Hale looked to be the aggressor on his way to 37 before he attempted a reverse scoop when the scores were level only to see his stumps disturbed.
