After winning the toss and choosing to bat first at Dellwood Avenue, Braintree CC were unable to build the substantial partnerships needed on a testing surface, eventually being bowled out for 139 in 42.4 overs by Felixstowe & Corinthians CC. Bryn Powell top-scored with a patient 44 from 102 balls, anchoring the innings after early wickets left Braintree struggling at 11-2. Toby Adcock added a determined 29, while Chris Walker chipped in with 18, but regular breakthroughs prevented the visitors from building momentum. Harry Hitchen was the pick of the bowlers with excellent figures of 4-23, supported well by Juwan Malindu, who claimed 3-17.
Defending a modest total, Braintree needed early wickets. However, an outstanding opening stand led by Ben Hopkins put the hosts firmly in control of the chase. Hopkins struck a fluent 78 from just 71 deliveries, finding the boundary regularly and taking the game away from Braintree during a dominant first-wicket partnership of 123. Joe Rusby provided solid support with 40, ensuring the hosts remained on course despite a brief late wobble.
Although Braintree fought hard in the field and briefly threatened to create pressure with only a cluster of wickets falling late on as Theo Sherry and Johnny Whiteoak, who both picked up two wickets apiece found some encouragement. Felixstowe & Corinthians reached 140-4 in just 26.4 overs to secure a six-wicket victory. Despite the disappointing result, there were positives to take from the performances of Powell with the bat and the wicket-taking efforts of Sherry and Whiteoak as Braintree look to bounce back in the coming fixtures.
