Braintree 1sts headed to Wivenhoe chasing their second win of the season and second on the bounce! After a brisk warmup and a few discussions around where the cars should be parked. Coming off his maiden 100, Skipper Hinksy called incorrectly and was sent out to bowl. Premier fast bowler Johnny Whiteoak was given the new ball but was quickly overshadowed by wicket keeper Bryn Powell asking Jakob Kelly, "Do you have a mirror at home?". M Atkins started strong removing batters Eddie Lucking and Matt Durell with his first 2 balls of his spell, handing Bryn Powell two catches in the process. Johnny Whiteoak Struck 3 overs later removing Jakob Kelly (18) caught by Chris Walker at point, keeping him in a chase for the fielding crown. Geoff Eveling and Chris Hinks were brought on to break the new forming partnership, it grew to 109 before Geoff Eveling found the way through, once again, the ball nesting in keeper Bryn Powells gloves. Returning after drinks at 25 overs, Jonty Rushton started strongly depositing Eveling into the back window of a car, not far from two of Braintree's players cars! This didnt last long as breaking the partnership for the second time that day, Eveling found a way through and caslted Jonty, sending him on his way. Atkins returned from the same end, replacing Eveling he continued in the same fashing, cleaning up Tom Durell (4). Having made the most of his lucky chances early, Gustav McKeon brought up his 100 and forced another change, much to the pleading of overseas Atkins not to take him off. Skipper Hinksy and Whiteoak came on, searching for the breakthrough. Whiteoak was sent back to his mark first ball, having been hit back over his head for 6. Hinks went in similar fashion but built preassure across his next 2 overs. Atkins came back on searching for a breakthrough and 4 balls into his over, the ball found safe hands of Matt Childs at long off, dismissing Gustav Mckeon for a well made 134. The cheers for the wicket were lead by away spectators Jim Powell and Matt Renvoize who had noise complaints from partners at the club. Searching for his maiden UK fifer, Atkins dismissed Jamie Lucking for a dubious LBW to claim his Braintree Baggy. Cleaning up Henry Sawyer the very next over, he finished on figures 6-58 from his 10. Whiteoak returned and dismissed Liam Fields to wrap up Wivenhoe's innings for 270 from 44.2 overs.
Christopher Hinks started off Braintree's batting innings by sending Mckeon through the covers for 4. Matt Childs followed suit a few overs later but both innings would be cut short, finding the hands of Wivenhoe fielders, dismissing Childs (6) and Hinks (4) within 7 overs. J Whiteoak wasn't hanging around and showed intent, scoring 7 off 11 before once again, finding the hands off a fielder. Chris Walker came to the crease at 22-3, joining Bryn Powell at the crease. Both batters hung around and showed some fight, Bryns inning was a, gritty knock facing 37 balls, scoring 10 off the bat and 2 off his legs. 10(37). H Patel came to the crease to keep building the innings, sadly the umpires didn't feel like sticking around that evening and saw him get rapped on the thigh pad and sent on his way.. Atkins came to the crease and scored a brisk 16 off 13 before throwing the hands at a wide one and making the long way back to the hutch. Geoff Eveling 0(3) had a brief stay at the crease before following Atkins back to the hut. Walker worked the runs around enabling Richard Hinks 4(2) to hit a 4 before drinks was called. First ball back, not so much as he danced down the pitch and kept dancing, back to the showers. Chris Walker tried to take the attack back to the opposition by ramping Jonty Rushton for 4, his next shot going for the same shot, lost his way and missed at straight one. Karl Parker walked out as the last batter, showing intent and 360 ability with his first shot, going over the keeper for 4. The umpires wanted a pint and as Karl would say, it was sliding down leg. That was the game
