Braintree's U13's suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a strong Colchester side as they played their first home game of the season.
Having been asked to bat openers Theo Sherry and Joe Chaplin looked to stunt the oppositions experienced attack and did a good job in doing so as they saw of the opening attack with no real scares. However, with the score on 24 a mix up saw the run out of Chaplin for 0 and shortly after Luke Huckson chipped one back to Riley Robb to give him a comfortable return catch. Sherry brothers Theo and Will needed to rebuild but Theo got caught between shots and found himself bowled by Robb for a well made 25.
Lucas Hale and Will Sherry then shared a stand of 76 but both of them found fluency hard to come by and the innings closed on 74-3
Colchester's powerful batting line up didn't take long to wrap up victory despite the removal of Gnanavel for a first ball duck. That brough Oscar Mortan Morley to the crease to join Alfie Youngs and the pair knocked off the required runs in just 6.5 overs.
A tough night for the young U13 side but as usual they carried themselves well and battled from start to finish.
