Braintree CC fielded a Sunday team for the second time this season and convincingly beat Woodham Mortimer by 131 runs.

The opening pair of Matt Renvoize and Toby Adcock put on 64 for the first wicket and after that it was an onslaught as Renvoize and Andrew Sherry struck boundaries for fun both men hitting 15 fours and 4 sixes in their innings. Sherry made 96 before being caught at mid off and Renvoize made 104before retiring, small contributions from Theo Sherry, Geoff Eveling and Arindam Ganguly, as well as a quickfire 50 from Dan King, propelled Braintree to 312 from their 40 overs.

Joel Ainsley and Andrew Gowers kept it tight early and both picked up early wickets, Ainsley grabbing a couple, one caught by Theo Sherry at mid off. He himself came on to bowl, and just like the day before, displayed great movement and accuracy with the ball, finishing on 1-24 from 5 overs. At the other end, leg spinner Adcock bamboozled opposition batters, unlucky not to finish with more than 1 wicket in his 8 overs. The catcher of that wicket. Rob Adcock, affectionately known as ‘Toby’s dad’ for the day after that being the name on the team sheet, came on to bowl, picking up two wickets. Lee Fullgrabe kept it tight before Eveling came on and took two wickets, Woodham Mortimer ending on 181-9.

A great win and fantastic performances by youngsters Adcock and Sherry, the match also creating a great buzz about the whole club which hopes to be repeated in future Sunday matches, albeit with slightly closer matched opposition
