An excellent return of 3-29 from 9 overs but hundreds from Bowles and Atkins set Braintree back

Josh Newman scored 32....

.... and Matt Renvoize 29 but no one else was able to support at Braintree fell for 141

Braintree’s First Eleven visited Copdock and Old Ipswichians on Saturday looking to avenge the one run defeat from earlier in the season. However, they didn’t get the result they were hoping for as they suffered a crushing 186 run defeat.
Copdock won the toss and elected to bat first and were soon in trouble as they lost their first three wickets with only 16 runs on the board. Robbie Spalding had Rebeun Sharp (2) caught by Milo Edwards and Luke Gouldstone had Karl Storey (5) snapped up by Grace Poole. When Gouldstone trapped England Over 40’s skipper Chris Swallow LBW having scored just a single the Dolphin’s tails were up. However, that was as good as it got as Ben Bowles and Fergus Atkins put on 241 runs for the fourth wicket.
Eventually after scoring 146 Atkins was stumped by Matt Renvoize off the bowling of Chris Hinks. Hinks then had Will Menzies (14) caught by Bryn Powell and Gouldstone clean bowled Archie Miller (8). Copdock’s innings closed on 327 for the loss of 6 wickets with Bowles undefeated on 121.
In reply Braintree were also quickly in trouble as Chris Leech lost his wicket having scored just 3, Bryn Powell (6) and Chris Hinks (11) soon followed him back to the pavilion both having their stumps dismantled. Matt Renvoize showed some resistant but when on 29 he was adjudged LBW.
Josh Newman continued his good form depositing three balls into the tennis courts at long on. After scoring a quick fire 32 though he looked to make it a fourth maximum but was deceived by the spin of Lucas Howard and was bowled. Braintree lost their last five wickets for the addition of only 19 runs with Rory Ainsley (11), Robbie Spalding (10), Luke Gouldstone (3), Grace Poole (0) and Calley Foyster (0) unable to stay around very long. Milo Edwards (7) kept his wicket intact as Braintree’s innings faltered on 141
