24 May 2025

Matt Kent gave the selectors something to ponder on as he hit an imperious 106 from 96 balls including 18 boundaries

Calum MacLeod fell just 2 dhort of a well deserved half century as he and Kent put on 104 for the 2nd wicket

Lyra MacLeod took her first league wickets with 2-30 as Colchester were bowled out for 180

Braintree's 3rd XI went into Saturday's game looking for their first win since the opening day of the season.
Captain Calum MacLeod won the toss and elected to bat with openers Nick Lockhart and Matt Kent getting them off to the perfect start with a partnership of 70 before Lockhart was bowled for for 27 by Charles Lynch.
Kent continued to dominate the bowling and with some lusty blows from him and some exquisite nurdling from MacLeod, the two put on 104 for the second wicket before Kent was bowled for a sublime 106 which included 18 boundaries.
MacLeod continued on his merry way before being bowled in the final over for 48 and then immediately declared he wasn't buying a jug!!! Shubham Alhat got his Braintree career really up and running, with an entertaining run-a-ball cameo of 32* as the home side finished on a very competitive 237-3.
In response, Colchester lost regular wickets including another victim for Lucas Hale and an outstanding direct hit run out of Oscar Morten-Morley by Callum Lazarus.
Everyone contributed in the field but the most plaudits went to the three leg spinners of Calley Foyster, Will Sherry and Lyra MacLeod.
Foyster bowled a testing length as she went straight through her eleven overs. Although she was unlucky to only get one wicket she picked up the key scalp of Sachin Patil for 51, after yet another catch from Lazarus.
At 128-5 things looked bleak for Colchester and aside from some big hitting towards the end, the tail was soon mopped up with a couple of wickets for Kent with his deadly off spinners and two wickets on debut for Lyra MacLeod, the first being a caught dad, bowled daughter combination which will be one to remember.
Colchester were bowled out for 180 in the end with Braintree winning by a comfortable 57 runs. A great team effort balanced out by contributions from both youth and experience alike
