Former Dolphin Mason Hughes Makes T20 Super Smash Debut

Braintree's former oversea's recruit, Mason Hughes, made his debut in the Super Smash, New Zealand's domestic T20 competition, as he lined up for the Central District against Wellington in the early hours of Saturday morning (8th Jan). Mason opened the batting as the 'Stags' set the 'Firebirds' 227, scoring 12 from 6 balls in an opening stand of 33 in 3.3 overs including a six and a four. Incredibly, thanks to a 141* in 65 balls from Michael Bracewell, the Firebirds reached the target with a ball to spare. Not a bad game to make a debut in.

Mason was part of the Braintree squad for the 2017 season but, due to rule changes and confusion over Visa restrictions and the ECB ruling around them, was not able to take the field for the 1st XI but contributed with a lot of great work with the clubs youth section.

Good Luck for the rest of the campaign Mason
