Braintree's young guns began their North Essex Eagles campaign with a convincing win over Great Totham on Tuesday night. With a side missing some key players from last years successful Under 14's side, the Junior Dolphins were able to give debuts to Scott Vine and Sam Burton as well as welcoming 10 year old Lucas Hale to make the 11.

Skipper Adam Westall won the toss and chose to bowl first and at the half way point would have been ruing that call with Totham making their way to 85 with Jacob Brook and Tom Wheeler looking dangerous. However, the introduction of spin had a major impact on proceedings as Toby Adcock removed Wheeler for 39 as he edged to keeper Harry Root, who took a smart catch, and then Westall removed Oliver Bassett who was adjudged leg before having bludgeoned 19 off of just 7 balls. 106-2 soon became 106-3 as Theo Sherry ran out Brock for 33 and Braintree were back in the game. Having played some exquisite drives Brock took on Sherry on the covers who picked up and threw the stumps down in fine style.

Wickets then began to fall steadily as Westall disturbed the stumps of Adam Cole, Henry Lawrence and Harry Pugh on his way to an impressive 4-10 and 2 more run outs saw Totham stutter to 124-8 in their 20 overs.

Braintree knew that they needed big runs at the top of the innings but lost the hard hitting Abdul Kamran at 29 as he was caught at mid off by Harry Pugh off of the bowling of Peter Quartermaine. Having found the boundary with a beautiful on drive the previous ball Kamran went for another but could only find the fielder.

Toby Adcock then joined his skipper at the crease and the pair set about the total in fine style. The watchfulness of Adcock complimented by the power of Westall, and a splattering of extras to boot, saw the pair put on 79 before Westall attempted a run off of a misfield and was undone by a great recovery throw. He had got his side to within 17 runs though as his well crafted 36 contained 4 x 4's and a maximum.

Callum Lazarus joined Adcock in the middle and the pair had no trouble in knocking off the remaining runs and seeing Braintree home with Adcock finishing 18 not out

A fantastic recovery from the boys having been under pressure in the first quarter of the game and a special mention must go to debutant Scott Vine who returned figures of 3-1-7-0 in his first outing for the club
