Chris Leech Takes on First Team Skipper Role
Having suffered the disappointment of relegation last term, Braintree's 1st XI will go into the 2022 campaign under the leadership team of new skipper Chris Leech and vice captain Chris Hinks in what will be a vital year for the club. Having lost some players over the winter months they will have a tough task to galvanise the side and push for the top end of the Two Counties Division 2 and ensure there is no danger of a double drop.
Chris has been at the club from a very young age is now a well established opening bat and was a natural choice for the skippers role having been vice captain in the past. Over the past couple of years he has shown a great capacity to take on personal challenges and has some great achievements under his belt - we are looking forward to seeing more on the field over the coming season.
Chris is naturally excited about his appointment and looking forward to the season ahead. "I’m extremely proud to be selected as first team captain for the 2022 season. Having been at the club since I was 10, it was never going to be an opportunity I could pass up."
"Looking forward to the 2022 season, we’ve got a lot to be positive about and naturally we believe we should be challenging for promotion again. A club our size should be a strong division 1 side and hopefully we can get back there. But it starts with us doing the basics and enjoying our cricket. The results will come off the back off that"
Meanwhile the replacement for Joel Ainsley in the 2's was not confirmed on the night and will be carried forward to an EGM anticipated to be in late January 2022. Joel has found it increasingly difficult to commit due to work and is disappointed to have to step down, especially with a great crop of youngster coming through the ranks and into the senior set up
